London Art Show – Square Foot Show

london art show square foot show ad 2012 London Art Show Square Foot Show

{Exhale, Fine Art Landscape Photograph}

I’m very excited to be a part of a new group art show at The Art Exchange – The Square Foot Show! The premise is simple, art that is exactly 12 x 12 inches displayed in a grid around the gallery, lets just say the libra in me is totally digging the symmetry.

My submission is a square version of my Lake Huron photograph Exhale, and we’re trying a little something different this time. It’s printed on metal! Our lab uses a dye-sublimation process to transfer the dyes onto aluminum, the corners are slightly rounded, and the piece is accented by a silver mounting post in each corner, they lift the image off the wall and provide the mechanism for hanging.

Definitely stop by on Friday’s opening night celebration! Darren and I will both be there along with tons of other participating artists, and hundreds of square feet of artwork.

While you’ve got your calendar handy be sure to check out our Art Show page to see where we’ll be this summer.

If you had a 12 x 12 inch piece of art where would you hang it in your home? The powder room? A hallway? Above a night stand? Do you have a special nook that would be perfect for a photograph this size?

Nuit Blanche

This year the London Fringe Festival is also presenting Nuit Blanche, an almost-all-night art event when downtown London will come alive with contemporary arts activities, exhibits, and whatever. Starting at 9:00pm on Saturday, June 16, 2012 and running until 3:00am on Sunday, June 17, 2012, galleries, museums, laneways, sidewalks, alleys, parks will become locations to engage in a variety of artistic experiences. Unusual or forbidden spaces become sites of contemporary art open for all-night discovery and rediscovery.

Attendees will have free access to explore, discover, debate, and participate in contemporary art. Artists will create installations, interactive art, film, sculpture, street theatre, music, anything that will encourage participation from audiences. The diversity of the art is unlimited.

Nuit Blanche London will take place primarily along Dundas Street, between Clarence Street and Ridout Street. There are some additional sites located nearby just North and South of Dundas, but all locations are within the downtown core. This is a large area with several unique and interesting spaces, both indoors and outside. Dundas Street between Clarence Street and Ridout Street will be closed to vehicular traffic during this event.

We popped by last year around midnight and it was magical! Dundas Street had a completely different feel, it was safe, very pedestrian friendly, and brimming with creativity and wonder.

And while you’re marking dates on your calendar be sure to check out our events page to stay up to date on everything we have planned this coming season.

Which art events do you plan to attend in the next few months? Is there a special gallery exhibit you’re looking forward to seeing? Or an art in the park event that you check out every year?

London Art Show – The Arts Project, Visual Fringe 2011

VisualFringe Opening Invite London Art Show The Arts Project, Visual Fringe 2011

I’m currently packing up my gear to head to Toronto for three days of photography. I’m so excited! And almost overwhelmed with all the planning.

Friday I picked up my three photographs from the framer that will be hanging at this year’s Fringe Festival: Lake Erie #9, Lake Erie #10, and Lake Erie #5, Moonrise. I decided to go with 16×20 photographs this year, something that I’ve never shown in a gallery before because I worry that the price point is prohibitively expensive. But this time I said what the hay, lets make some big beautiful prints. They’ve been hanging in our living room all weekend and I’m not sure that I’m ready to take them down and drop them off at The Arts Project.

Opening night is this Thursday, June 16th, 7-9 pm, Darren and I will both be there to answer any questions about my work and to schmooze with the other artists. We’d love if you stopped by to say hi!

And if you’re in the area this coming Saturday, June 18th, there is tons of stuff a happenin’ in downtown London. Relating to Fringe is the Nuit Blanche night that will have all sorts of interesting art spectacles happening in alleys all over downtown. Plus it’s also a Car Free Festival weekend, so don’t be thinkin’ about driving down that night. And if that weren’t enough Snoop Dogg is also playing an outdoor show in the parking lot of The London Music Hall. Sounds like it’s going to be a crazy night!
