Toronto Landscape Photograph Lake Ontario 2 Burlington Art Centre 2012 Art Auction

Toronto Landscape Photograph – Lake Ontario #2

We’re very excited to announce that again this year we’ll have a photograph included at The Burlington Art Centre Art Auction! I was on a secret mission while I was in Burlington in last month, I was dropping off Lake Ontario #2 in preparation for this year’s auction. Lake Ontario #2 will be available as a 16×20 inch photograph in a 20×24 inch frame {retail: $610}. This is one of very few ways to get your hands on a framed piece and support a fantastic arts organization. I’m honoured to be among this year’s artists, which includes world renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman.

London Art Show – The Arts Project, Visual Fringe 2011

VisualFringe Opening Invite London Art Show The Arts Project, Visual Fringe 2011

I’m currently packing up my gear to head to Toronto for three days of photography. I’m so excited! And almost overwhelmed with all the planning.

Friday I picked up my three photographs from the framer that will be hanging at this year’s Fringe Festival: Lake Erie #9, Lake Erie #10, and Lake Erie #5, Moonrise. I decided to go with 16×20 photographs this year, something that I’ve never shown in a gallery before because I worry that the price point is prohibitively expensive. But this time I said what the hay, lets make some big beautiful prints. They’ve been hanging in our living room all weekend and I’m not sure that I’m ready to take them down and drop them off at The Arts Project.

Opening night is this Thursday, June 16th, 7-9 pm, Darren and I will both be there to answer any questions about my work and to schmooze with the other artists. We’d love if you stopped by to say hi!

And if you’re in the area this coming Saturday, June 18th, there is tons of stuff a happenin’ in downtown London. Relating to Fringe is the Nuit Blanche night that will have all sorts of interesting art spectacles happening in alleys all over downtown. Plus it’s also a Car Free Festival weekend, so don’t be thinkin’ about driving down that night. And if that weren’t enough Snoop Dogg is also playing an outdoor show in the parking lot of The London Music Hall. Sounds like it’s going to be a crazy night!

bloomin earth – the main event

201104 023 blog bloomin earth the main event

How wrinkly is that tablecloth?! Somehow I didn’t notice it on Saturday, although I guess there wouldn’t have been much I could have done about it. Looks like I’ve got some ironing to do.

The weather for Saturday’s Bloomin Earth market in Kitchener, Ontario was windy and rainy, so lucky for us vendors the coordinators decided to move the even indoors, hooray! It’s so lovely and inspiring to spend the day with other makers.

I really missed Darren, he’s so good with customers and his smile always brightens my day. He had prior obligations so I did the show on my own. My Mom and aunt and uncle stopped by for a bit too, they watched my booth while I had lunch. Thanks everyone!

The highlight of my day, and let me tell you, it was tough to choose, was seeing my long lost cousin Rob. Neither of us knew the other would be having a booth there so it was a happy surprise! Our family doesn’t get together much, I feel like I’ve only ever met him five or six times, but this is the third time I’ve seen him in two years. Hi Rob!

This is Kate. She runs The French Press Stationery Studio. We’ve been friends for about six years now, she’s married to a boy that I grew up with. Kate does amazing work over a variety of genres.

201104 035 blog bloomin earth the main event

Kate makes beautifully simple notecards. She was worried that with an outdoor event her paper goodies might sail away with the breeze so she made this wicked-awesome display to keep everything in it’s place. I know! Brilliant!

Kate also likes loves to sew. Don’t even get her started discussing the inspiration for these elephants. There will be tears. And you’ll be taking an elephant home. Like I said, Kate is amazing.

This right here is my favourite table from the event: Quirkology. I should have taken some close-ups for all of you to see but I had to get back to my booth. Crocheted vegetables. Somehow this never seemed odd to me until I typed it here. She had a fantastic setup! Her veggies were snuggled into some fake grass. So simple and so effective. Look closely, you’ll be surprised at what you find. Crocheted ice cream cones, toothbrush and toothpaste, and an alarm clock. So well done!

Like every show I attend I host a draw to give away some of my work, the winner of this event is: Sheila Perkin. Congratulations!

upcoming event – bloomin earth

bloominpostcardsample blog upcoming event bloomin earth

Yikes! It’s already Thursday! How did that Happen? It’s been a busy week. Both yesterday and today I was up at the ungodly hour of 5am trekking to Port Stanley to kick off the 2011 seascape season. Stay tuned next week to see the fruits of this week’s labour or become a fan of our Facebook page to see a sneak preview.

Now that those two sessions are done I can focus on this weekend’s art fair: Bloomin Earth in Kitchener, Ontario. I’ve got lots of photographs to package up along with our table setup. Plus I should put in some time doing the sunshine dance to chase away the the rain they’re calling for on Saturday.
