Lake Erie #4, 8×10 inch minimalist seascape photograph

I have been dying to photograph at Erieau. We finally made it out there last week and came back with this gem: Lake Erie #4.

For those of you that have been asking, this image was created entirely in camera. The only work that was done in Photoshop was retouching a few bits of sand that had found their way onto my lens, which is inevitable when photographing on the beach.

I ache to go back and capture more.

Lake Erie #3, Moonrise, 8×10 inch modern seascape photograph

Full thunder moon, full buck moon, and full hay moon are some of the different names for the full moon in July.

Three months in the making, this calming minimalist seascape full moon photograph was captured in Port Stanley, Ontario, Canada on the shore of Lake Erie shortly after sunset.

Lake Erie #2, 8×10 inch modern seascape photograph

Three days in the making and we’re finally ready to release our newest photograph, Lake Erie #2! A ribbon of rocks forming a wave break remind me of a delicate pearl necklace.

This modern minimalist seascape photograph was captured in Port Stanley, Ontario, Canada on the shore of Lake Erie shortly after sunset. Surrounded by fishermen and june bugs and under the light of the full moon we waited patiently until just the right moment to capture this quiet, peaceful scene.

Grand Bend #2, modern beach photograph

Remember last fall I went out to photograph the Grand Bend shoreline only to discover that the snow fence had already been installed for the winter? Well last week I thought it would finally be safe to recapture that scene – this time fence-less.

The weather forecast looked great!

I got up nice and early (read 3:30 am), drove 71 km from home (which took about an hour and fifteen minutes), saw some beautiful fog along the way, and arrived just in time for sunrise.

Things didn’t work out quite as planned; it turned out that a portion of the fence remained because they are trying to naturalize the area with new native plants (which look great by the way). I was still able to capture the image above of a lifeguard station and I’m quite pleased with it. There’s something about it that seems a little bit industrial and timeless, I envision a nice big 24 x 30 inch print of it hanging on a small, bare wall in a corporate office.

Port Bruce #1, 8×10 inch modern fine art photograph

The weather was so clear here last week that Darren and I thought it might be nice to go on a picnic: a car picnic. So last Monday evening Darren and I packed up some baked beans, rice, and homemade cookies and drove out to Port Bruce for a twilight filled with pictures and a picnic.

I scouted out the area last week during my four ports, a point, and a saint trip and decided that it would be a great spot to capture more peaceful photographs of water. The evening was beautiful! Watching the sunset is such a soothing way to spend time with my husband.

It definitely looks as though my blogging week has gone awry, but that’s not surprising given that yesterday was a holiday here in Ontario. Wednesday was a beautifully overcast wintery day in our part of the world, perfect for snowy tree photographs. Darren found a new area just outside of town that he thought I should check out, so off I went – camera in tow! Many gorgeous trees were captured; this image being my personal favourite. Look for it to be available in our shop some time next week.

We haven’t come up with a name yet, we’re thinking Elviage Pearl or Alone Together. Please comment with your suggestions.

Have you noticed a new blog appearing in our blogroll? I just added a brand new one (new as of December) to our list and it might just be what I’m looking for to fill the green void left by the signing off of Green as a Thistle. Plastic Manners, brought to my attention earlier this week via the David Suzuki Foundation Facebook page, chronicles the tale of Taina’s self-imposed year without plastics and the creation of her “Vile Pile”, unavoidable and incidentally acquired plastics.

I am certain this is a blog that is going to get me riled – not by Taina, but by the plastic world we live in and the little things that I often overlook. For instance, why do apples from the grocery store have to come with one form of plastic or another? They are either packed within a clear plastic bag, or they individually brandish a plastic sticker. Argh…
