Getty Images is based in the United States and is one of the leading providers of stock photography. That means they license photographs (among other things) to companies that need images but don’t want to hire a photographer. It can be a less expensive way of acquiring photos for ads and brochures with the trade off being that the image may be used by other companies too, depending on what the license states.
