Wayfare Magazine February 2012 1 Featured Wayfare Magazine

Last November I received a surprise email from from Erica Dublin, co-founder and editor-in-chief of See Jane Fly. Erica wanted to include some of my images and writing in a new magazine they were launching. After many happy dances in my living room the piece is finally complete.

We’ve been holding our breath until we could share the good news: I’m incredibly honoured to have my Ontario seascape photographs featured in the pilot issue of Wayfare, a new kind of travel publication.

Wayfare’s mission is to bring their readers a beautiful digital experience, showcasing great ideas inspired by adventures near and far. The first edition of Wayfare will be offered exclusively for iPad, but for now you can enjoy a sneak peek at what’s to come in their pilot edition here. Coverage, both in the magazine and on the Wayfare blog, will include profiles of inspired locals from around the corner and around the world, global fashion, photography, food and field notes from the intersection of home, style and travel.

Winter Tree Photograph – Porcelain Nest

Winter Tree Photograph Porcelain Nest 027 Winter Tree Photograph Porcelain Nest

Porcelain Nest, Winter Tree Photograph

We’re off to a very slow start to winter tree photographs this season. There hasn’t been much snow, and the little that we’ve had has melted quickly.

On the blowy, snowy day I made this photograph visibility was quite low. I stood in this farmer’s field thinking of all the woodland creatures who’ve been up and down this tree, calling it home. I heard a rustle and as I turned a jackrabbit darted from a bush, sprinting across the frosty pasture.

Framing Photography – Buying Frames

framing photography vanilla dream Framing Photography Buying Frames

Vanilla Dream, 11×14 in a 16×20 frame from Black’s

One of the first things you’re going to want to do once you receive your photograph is put it out on display. The easiest and least expensive way to do that is by using pre-made frames in standard sizes, many even come with pre-cut mats so all you need to do is insert your print and hang it on the wall. This is a fairly simple task for 8×10 and 11×14 prints, but anything larger than that I truly do recommend handing over to a professional since the size can be awkward to handle and very easily get kinked or damaged.

For those of you daredevils DIY’ers out there that want to try your hand at framing here are some of our favourite places to buy frames, both local and online:

As you can probably tell our favourite frame colours are black, white, and brushed silver, all with white mats. I think simple frames are timeless and fade into the background letting the artwork shine through. Make the photograph yours and frame it to match your style.

And don’t forget to check out our quick reference guide for Standard Frame Sizes, you may want to keep a copy of it in your purse.

Now that you see how easy it is, visit our photography shop to add more pieces to your collection.
