One of my favourite things to do this time of year is to pour over paint colours! Who am I kidding, I’ll pour over paint colours any day. One of my happy places is sitting on the floor surrounded by paint swatches, dreaming up a makeover.
Benjamin Moore just announced their paint colours for 2019, have you seen them yet? It’s a nice mix of soft, light neutrals, accented with a few rich darker shades.
Wanna see how they’ll work with a few of my favourite photographs?
She Danced Among the Morning Tide
{ Paint Colours – Head Over Heels / Cloud White / Balboa Mist / Metropolitan / Kendall Charcoal }
Don’t the softer, lighter tones look really nice with She Danced Among the Morning Tide?
We actually use Balboa Mist in our bedrooms! It’s a soothing, natural, putty-like colour that works with everything I put with it, warm or cool. And it’s one of those magical neutrals that looks a little bit different in every room and lighting condition – to the point that no one believes me when I tell them all the bedrooms are the same colour.
Pinery Sunbathers
{ Paint Colours – Decorator’s White / Head Over Heels / Balboa Mist / Putnam Ivory / Black Pepper }
Pinery Sunbathers still has a lot of those soft light tones but they’re grounded a tiny bit with a medium-dark grey-blue. That Black Pepper is such a great colour isn’t it? The perfect mix of classic and modern! I can totally see it on the lower cabinets of a white kitchen.
Pinery Steps Beach #9

{ Paint Colours – Cloud White / Smoke / Head Over Heels / Kona / Hunter Green }
Even in nature you can find soft light colours complemented with darker tones. Again with the grounding! My tendency would be to use primarily pale pastels with a minimal amount of darks, just enough to weigh things down.
There’s clearly a few repeats in there: Head Over Heels (who knew there was so much pale pink in my work lately?!), Cloud White (which used to be the go-to white in our house until we started adding so much blue and switched to Simply White), and Balboa Mist.
Which are your favourites? Are you planning to paint or redecorate this year? Can you see yourself using any of these?
