I want my bedroom to feel calming and welcoming.
Tidy and tranquil.
And most of all I want it to feel like a fleeting moment I had in my first apartment – I woke from a deep sleep to a room that was light and bright and heavenly and felt like I was suspended halfway between dreamland and reality.
Full of optimism and fresh starts.
Seconds later my eyes adjusted to the space and I came back to the reality of college life and I promised myself I’d one day have a bedroom that made me feel like that every morning.
Soft and gentle like I’m floating in the clouds.
Ya, this bedroom looks perfectly fine in the before photo above, but check out how much more finished it looks with blue and white abstract art above the bed.

The ceiling looks higher.
The bed more substantial.
And In The Clouds pulls together the soft blue and white tones of the room.

Plus it’s just plain prettier.
So…
How to choose the perfect piece of artwork for above your bed?
Start by looking around your room and noting the colours.
And if it’s all white-on-white-on-white like my dream bedroom, then think about which colours you’d like to add.
Then, under the Shop Art dropdown menu at the top of the page, browse pieces that might work with your colour scheme.
You can also go a little broader and check out warm and cool toned art prints.
If abstracts are your thing then go here >
Horizontal art is definitely easier to work with in the often long narrow space above your bed. And the beauty of prints is that I can make any custom size you want!
Start by figuring out the width of your finished piece (the frame). You’ll want it to be about 60-80% the width of your headboard, then work backwards to figure out which size print would work with it.
Most of all, choose a beautiful art print that makes you feel the way you want to feel when you wake up, and inspires the dreamiest of dreams when you close your eyes.
Need more inspiration? This is by far the most popular piece collectors hang above their bed.
