Investing in Me

A couple months ago I invested in myself and my business. I take courses and attend workshops several times a year, but somehow I knew this one was going to be different. It wasn’t about photography and technique, instead it focused more on the business side of things. Jasmine Star was teaching a course for other creatives about how to better communicate with their fans and followers.

Who is Jasmine Star?

  • She’s an extraordinarily talented wedding photographer that has an editorial style and colour palette all her own {and no, I still have no intentions of photographing weddings}
  • She’s recently branched out and started teaching creatives about branding and marketing
  • She’s wowed me with the way she uses social media, ever since the first time I heard about her through Chase Jarvis seven years ago when she was strictly a wedding photographer
  • She works smart and spends her time focusing on her followers and what she knows they want to hear more about

Investing in ME

In March when Jasmine announced she would be leading a six week course called The Path to Profitability I was super excited but I honestly wasn’t sure if I could afford it. It would eat up the rest of my education budget for the year and there were still nine months left!

I agonized over what to do. I could probably have taught myself everything I learnt in her class, but let’s be real, who’s got time for that?! It would have taken years to do all that research. YEARS! And I wanted to create a more relaxed atmosphere around the studio and the work I do NOW, not four years from now.

So I dove in head first.

Why am I tell you all this? Because I want you to know that I’m not just someone who’s hoping for the best. I’m in this for the long haul. I’m someone who really wants to help you turn your home into a more relaxing and creative nest.

Which brings me to my question…

What Would You Like to Hear More about?

I’m working towards honing my blog, Instagram, Facebook, and email newsletter to better connect with you and grow together. So what would you like to read more about?

  1. Photography and Art – Things like how to improve your photography skills, some of my favourite art, and how to shop for prints.
  2. Personal Stories – What Darren and I have been up to, what my life looks like, what my dreams are, and who I am.
  3. Business – What it’s like being a full time photographer along with tips and tricks of being a small business owner.
  4. Self-Care – How I like to relax, balancing work and life, and techniques for de-stressing.
  5. Decor – Home decor inspiration and ideas including DIY projects, product roundups, and how to decorate with art.

I love them all and will probably write about all of them in one form or another, but I want to know what you’d like me to focus on the most. Leave your favourites in the comments section below. Heck, if you’re in a hurry you can even just leave the corresponding numbers. And if there’s any specific topics you’d like covered, definitely mention those too.
