How was your weekend? Mine was quite busy, in a very good way! Saturday was a home day, spent on our warming our home and living room cure projects. Then yesterday we had a big Squires family Sunday supper. It was so nice to see my family! Lots of aunts, uncles, and cousins I haven’t seen in close to four years, there were even some people there that I have never met.
Week two of our living room cure had us clearing the clutter and getting to know our home better. So far it doesn’t look as though there will be much change in the layout of the furniture in our living room, aside from the addition of some lighting and perhaps a new sideboard. I love our extra large couch but it really seems to limit how we fill the space. Given the gorgeous scenery that surrounds our home I would love if we could place a piece of furniture that looks out the window but so far I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. Perhaps a strategically place mirror that allows us to see outside? We’ll see.
- wall sconces
- picture frames
- sideboard, probably from Corner Furniture
- chair, I don’t think this will be happening during the cure, it’s more of a long term plan
- lights for either side of the couch, not sure if this will be a table lamp and a floor lamp or something wall mounted
- two baskets to organize the clutter on the bottom shelf of our coffee table
- sheer/lace curtains for the small windows
It’s also important when working on a room to clearly determine what the room will be used for, here’s what we’ve come up with so far:
- playing guitar
- watching movies
- displaying art
I think including this list with our design plans will really help to stay on track with furniture placement, lighting, and the general focus of the room. Next we’ll be narrowing down where each of these activities will specifically take place.
I’d love to hear your suggestions about our floor plan!

What program did you use to create that diagram?
Hi Melanie! I actually made these floor plans online using this website: http://lanefurniture.icovia.com/
Thank you so much for the link!! =D
I hope your Cure is going well! I tried doing it once, but flamed out after week two or so. Maybe I should give it another whirl next time!
So far it’s going well! We’ve got quite a few other home projects happening right now and I know my husband is feeling overwhelmed. I think if we maintain our momentum we’ll be ok.
