Weekend in Santorini Bucket List

Weekend in Santorini Bucket List - A restful and delicious escape

We visited several Greek Islands for our honeymoon ten years ago, and it was love at first sight. I fell fast and hard.

The architecture, the ocean, the food, the lifestyle. I’ve dreamt of going back every year since. When I do get a chance to visit again, this is what would be topping my weekend in Santorini bucket list…

Stay

It’s absolutely worth spending a night in both Thira (the main town on Santorini), and quieter Oia on the northwest tip of the island. Either way, definitely stay in a cave suite for the ultimate in charm. And it can get hot, so a pool is a must.

Eat

I swear the eating never stopped when we were there. But who am I kidding, the eating never stops when we travel. Am I right?!

Some of my favourites were the chocolate baklava (why, oh why don’t we have that here?!), the banana and chocolate crepes we had for breakfast (which are made with Merenda, which is a chocolatey-er version of Nutella), and a lunchtime gyro picnic.

Shop

Definitely pick up a few locally designed white cotton shirts and dresses. Not only do they make great souvenirs, but they’ll help keep you cool while you’re on the island.

Walk – You know me, I like to explore small neighbourhoods on foot and Santorini is no exception. I’d plan to spend half a day exploring the old architecture and nooks and crannies in each town, maybe longer if I feel like stopping for a bit of wine along the way.

Volcano Tour – I’d definitely do the volcano tour again even though I’ve already seen it. It’s just so lovely to spend a few hours sailing across the caldera, walking on the top of the volcano, swimming in the super clear ocean, and having a seafood lunch in a quiet little restaurant on the water.

Vista

Oia Sunset – Oia is absolutely the best spot on the island to watch the sunset, and it’s also one of the reasons I’d stay there a night.

Take in the View of the Ocean – I’d have to say, the most relaxing thing we did when we were there was sit on a cliffside patio in Thira, sip cocktails, and watch the boats go by. For hours. Hours. It’s the Santorini equivalent of sitting on a downtown patio and watching the people go by, except at a wonderfully slower pace.

It’s been so long since we’ve been there that I didn’t want to link to any of the specific places we stayed and ate, but really, you can’t go wrong anywhere.

So what do you think? Are you ready to pack your bags and head for the Greek Isles? Or is there someplace else that’s stolen your heart? If you could go back to anywhere you’ve already visited where would you go? I want to hear your favourite places in the comments section below.

Bon voyage darling!

PS. Now you can bring a little piece of Greece home, I’ve added a few of my favourite photographs to my shop >
