So. I don’t take sick days. I’m that totally annoying person who says if you’re sick you should stay home, take care of yourself, and not infect all your co-workers. And that applies to everyone but me.
See, the thing is, I don’t really work with other people. So when I’m sick I don’t really feel the need to not work. It’s not as though I need to worry about passing along my germs to anyone else.
But the thing that I so often overlook is that I’m not taking care of me.
So I’m going to start taking Wellness Days. I’ve been talking about it for a few years now but I’ve finally decided to schedule it into my calendar. One Friday, once a month. To keep my physical and mental self in check I plan to:
- read a mix of fiction and self care
- practice yoga
- go for a nice long walk
- maybe go to the beach
- book a massage
- long hot shower
- revisit my eating habits
- make a nice dinner, slowly
- limit the time I spend looking at a screen
- and just generally leaving my day open to go with the flow
