In December / January I set aside several days to hide in the studio with many hot beverages and sweet treats and plan out my year to come.

The Lindors were flowing but my career planning was not.

The personal stuff was easy - home projects, fitness goals, planning when I’d take holidays. Check, check, check.

But I got hung up on the studio stuff. How do you set goals as a mid-career artist? Beyond “release X number of collections” and “sell Y number of pieces”, what else is there?

I really don’t know… There’s not exactly a clearly mapped out corporate ladder.

So I’ve been feeling a little lost. I hardly know what to do next and I don’t know where I’m going.

Because I don’t know what to do I just start checking things off my to do list. Done, done, done. Until my brain is done and I haven’t accomplished anything good.

Oh well. Better rest up. Tomorrow will be better.

But then it isn’t. It’s the same. And slowly my year starts to get fuzzy.

It’s almost spring now and I can feel the happy anticipation of new beginnings in the bottom of my stomach. Excitement, like this will be it, this will be my season.

So I created this collection.

Botanicals because it’s almost spring and that’s what I’m craving.

Photographed in the studio because the snow here has only just melted (the lakes are still frozen!) and everything outside is brown and mucky and ugly.

And the super shallow, soft focus because everything feels a little fuzzy right now. A future unclear.
